With many of our colleagues from Aurion’s parent company, the Chandler Macleod Group, in lockdown, lots of rain about the place, and limited hours of daylight, it can be hard to find the brightness at the moment, and it’s too easy to go into hibernation and slip into unhealthy habits.

Thankfully our Wellbeing Ambassadors have brought us Winter Wellness Week and introduced a little bit of a spark into our lives, with a raft of information and resources on topics such as gratitude, simple tips for managing the “winter blues”, mood-boosting playlists, staying fit in winter, activities for a rainy day (or lockdown!), and even healthy eating with the CMG Winter Wellness Cookbook authored by our own team members.

Busting the winter blues
Symptoms like lack of energy, sleeping too much, finding it hard to get going in the morning, overeating and craving carbohydrates, and losing interest in normal activities, are common complaints we all have during winter, especially when you throw a COVID-19 lockdown into the mix.

On the flip side, having high levels of wellbeing has been shown to increase our immunity to infection, lower our risk of some mental health problems, reduce mental decline as we get older, and increase our resilience.

At Aurion, we see work-life balance as fundamental both to our commercial success and our company values, and we have a deep commitment to our team members’ the mental and physical health.

We offer company-funded flu vaccinations, and access to a confidential counselling and support service and corporate health plans. We’ve also invested in training to accredit eight of our team members as Mental Health First Aiders (MHFAs), and three of them volunteered to become Wellbeing Ambassadors.

Aurion team members also enjoyed a Wellbeing webinar presented by our very own Wellbeing Ambassador, who explored the eight dimensions of wellness: Emotional, Spiritual, Intellectual, Physical, Environmental, Financial, Occupational and Social, and tips on the tools you can use to support your wellbeing.
